The making of
Frank Stella & The Broken Jug
Since November 2nd 2021 The Broken Jug, an
enormous sculpture created by world famous artist Frank Stella, can be seen in
Harlingen. The work is 12 metres high and 14 metres wide, it weighs 45,000
kilograms.
The arrival of this work by an American
artist inspired municipal museum Het Hannemahuis to organise an exhibition
placing the sculpture in context, using six models of Stella’s works and a
series of photos. The models were made in Stella’s New York studio especially
for the Harlingen exhibition. Together with the photos they illustrate how
Frank Stella goes about the creation of his sculptures.
Naturally much attention is devoted to the
Broken Jug but also to other works such as Monel Star, The Grand Cascapedia and
Kedgwick. Altogether an interesting insight into Frank Stella’s world.
